Two years ago, Joe McCain weighed 247 lbs, the heaviest he had ever been in his life. Today, the 46-year-old Somerville police officer is down to 200 lbs, a weight he has maintained through a change in diet and yoga. Six days a week, whether it's 90 minutes in a studio, or shorter sessions at home when his work schedule conflicts, McCain dedicates a part of his day to yoga. "It feels like a sigh," says McCain, "That's the best description of yoga for me." Although McCain is only one of two men on the Somerville police force who does yoga, he says his male co-workers that do more traditional weight-lifting, are supportive. Several women have also been curious about yoga, and with his diet, since he became a vegan over a year ago.
"I miss it terribly when i don't do it. I try to plan my whole day around going to yoga."
